School History
A brief history of our school
The North Little Rock Montessori School was established in 1969 in the side room of the McCain Boulevard Fire Station. Continued interest in the Montessori Method resulted in our first move to Park Hill Christian Church on John F. Kennedy Boulevard.
In 1972, our growth in numbers allowed us to realize our dream of a school that was owned by the children and designed according to the specification of the “ideal” Montessori environment. A school that would allow the necessary freedom of movement, access to outside activities, and give room for expansion. On land donated by Dr. and Mrs. Walter O’Neal at Kierre and Perrin Roads, a building of 4 spacious classrooms housed 2 primary classes, elementary class and after-school care.
A reorganization as a school only was made by the Board of Directors in 1973. The next year, 1974-75, began the realization of our goal in adding one grade per year until we reached 6th grade, making us a complete elementary school.
In 1986, we moved to our current facilities at 900 Mission Road in North Little Rock. Once again, our growth and enrollment enabled us to expand and meet the physical needs of our students by building 2 new permanent classrooms in 1991.
The North Little Montessori School has always strived for excellence in all areas. The teaching staff is no exception. The fact that we have very few turnovers in staff gives the children security, continuity and dependability. Our 10 staff members are affiliated with the St. Nicholas Montessori Training Centre in London, England. Our school is a member of the IMS, the International Montessori Society. Our combined years of experience in the Montessori Method total 135 years.
The North Little Rock Montessori School continues to be a Non-profit, board run school that is owned by the children. We look forward to many years of continued success.
